Richard H. Delventhal

Richard H. Delventhal, 84, of Allendale, formerly of Ramsey, died peacefully on November 18, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born April 30, 1936 in Cleveland, he grew up in Maple Heights, OH before joining the U.S. Army. He served as a cryptographer stationed in the Philippines. Upon college graduation, he began a forty-year career at Benjamin Moore Paints in Cleveland and Chicago, retiring as Corporate Controller in Montvale, NJ. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joanne (Andruszko), devoted children, David (Donna) and Lisa Lagan (John), beloved grandchildren, Scott Delventhal and his fianceé Kristen Sellix, Stephanie Delventhal and her fiancé Juliano Zahlanie, Lucas, Sarah and Frank Logue, and his brother Ronald Delventhal (Henrietta). He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Anne and sister, Bernadette Blask. He was always in search of the perfect lobster roll. He would travel far and wide to do so. He loved to have lunch alone at the counter at his favorite local diners. The waitresses knew him by name and were always happy to see him. He ALWAYS tipped well; in fact, if someone else was buying and tipping, he would often excuse himself to the restroom so he could secretly give more.  He loved his grandchildren dearly and took great pride in them. When they were young he would take them on adventures to the mall, arcade or a park to play and feed the ducks. He was an avid photographer so the next day we would receive a photo album documenting the event. He brought his camera everywhere and never missed the opportunity to capture great memories that will live on forever. He never seemed to stop making those photo albums. He was a perfect role model for his children growing up. He was hard-working, organized, had good values, amiable, considerate, dependable, witty and generous to a fault. We all deeply cherish the time we had with him in his 84 years. We will always love him and miss him but take comfort that he is at peace now. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 12-5 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave. Ramsey, NJ. A private family funeral service will take place on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 10 AM. It will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. All are invited to the burial at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave. Mahwah, NJ at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
