Richard P. Gazda, Sr. passed away at his home on May 20, 2022 at the age of 82. Richard was born on May 17, 1940 to Paul and Veronica (nee Kandrach) Gazda. He grew up in Mahwah, NJ and graduated from Ramsey High School in 1958. Richard attended the New York State Printing Apprenticeship and worked as a Printer for 8years. He then became an Metallurgist at Abex Corporation and worked for them for 17 years. Finally he became a Senior Leader in Construction Services at Ramapo College until his retirement in 2000.
He met his wife of 60 years, Helen, when they lived across the street from each other as children in Mahwah, NJ. They were married on October 15, 1961 and later moved to Suffern, NY where they started their family. Richard was a dedicated husband and beloved father of sons Kenneth and his wife Nancy and Richard Jr. and his wife Sheri and daughter Kathleen who predeceased him and her husband Shawn. He was the proud grandfather to Christopher, Ilana, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Arissa and Nyah. Richard enjoyed being part of their lives and watching them grow into young adults.
Richard loved casino hopping, bowling, fishing on Lake Sebago, woodworking, and building various things such as tables, sconces and bird houses. He enjoyed good times with his friends and family. He looked forward to his yearly trips to Massachusetts. He loved to travel with his best friends for 20 years of adventures around the USA, crazy Christmas celebrations with family, but especially enjoyed being with the love of his life, his wife Helen. Over the last few years Richard spent time creating a large garden of over 100 pots around the yard filled with various vegetables, herbs and many varieties of tomato plants.
Most of all, Richard enjoyed a good Scotch.
