Richard W. Hoffman (Rich), 88, died November 24, 2025 at home after a long illness with his wife by his side. He was born, March 6, 1937, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of George and Grace (Blauvelt) Hoffman. He resided in Upper Saddle River before moving to Ramsey.
Rich graduated from Dater School aka School Street School. Rich worked for the Ramsey Board of Education as a custodian. In 1961 he then went to work for the Borough of Ramsey Road Department where he started as a laborer. In 1972 he was promoted to Foreman of Building and Grounds and then to Assistant Superintendent of Building and Grounds. He retired after 41 years of dedicated service. After retirement he worked part-time doing landscaping, as a delivery man for Bagel Boys and for the Ramsey Pool.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Henry Lucke. Rich is survived by his loving wife, Sandy (Lucke) Hoffman of 64 1/2 years, along with his mother-in-law, Thelma (Quackenbush) Lucke, daughters, Sherri (Hoffman) Ragazzo and her husband Gary of NC and Dawn Hoffman of Ramsey. In addition, he is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jamie (Haag) Howard and husband Steve, Arthur Hoffman, Amanda (Ragazzo) Gray and husband Dustin, Lindsay Hoffman and Kelley Ragazzo. He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren, Aidan, Caroline, Juliet and Rhys Howard, as well as, Banks and Harper Gray.
Rich, Sandy, Thelma and Henry (Sandy's parents) took all the family on many vacations. Rich looked forward to spending this time with his family every year going to Willow Valley, Tabas, The American Music Theatre and Wildwood Crest. Each and every one of us have so many treasured memories of these times together. Happy times.
Rich lived a full, rewarding life surrounded by his family. He will be missed more than words can say by all of us. Life will certainly not be the same without him. We are all very thankful for the memories we are left with.
The family would like to thank the Ramsey Ambulance Corps, Ptl Banta and Ptl Gutierrez of the Ramsey Police Department, The Ramsey Rescue Squad and the Valley Hospice Team for going above and beyond.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. A funeral service will held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mahwah Cemetery.
