Richard W. Merkel

Richard Walter Merkel passed away peacefully in his home on June 16, 2025.  Merk, as he was known by close friends and family, was born in Passaic, NJ to the late Mary and Walter Merkel.

After graduating from Westwood High School, Merk was recruited to play football by Colby College in Maine.   Merk is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Georgia, his children Jennifer (Gregg), Jason (Julie Ann), and Josh (Angela), and grandchildren Greer, Gehrig, Remy, Jack, Luke, Finnegan, and Hudson. 

Merk worked in construction and owned several construction companies over the years.  He loved watching baseball, basketball, and football, and never missed any of his kids’ games.  Merk will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor and infectious laugh, and his devotion to his family.  A true gentleman, Merk led by example, teaching his kids the values of hard work, generosity, and self-confidence.
