Rita M. Kane, 76, passed away peacefully at Valley Hospital on July 21, 2024. Raised in the Bronx, New York, Rita moved to Allendale, New Jersey, where she worked at the Hillside School for 27 years.
She is predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Mary Kruger and her sister, Jean Grosvenor. Rita is survived by her husband Ed, her son Eddie, her daughter-in-law Erin, her two grandsons Eddie and Ian, her sister-in-law Pat Perillo, and her diabetic service dog Leah.
Rita was known for her thoughtfulness and sense of humor. She mastered a balance of sweetness and strength. Rita’s written sentiments on special occasions are legendary, especially when they contained poorly drawn sketches of her pet dogs. She had a skill for picking out the simplest and most perfect gifts for people she cared about. A phone call or conversation with Rita always left you feeling better about both yourself and life in general. She was a master mixologist of a hot toddy and a master baker of butter cookies. If you met Rita, you immediately liked her. If you got to know her, you loved her.
A celebration of Rita’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 with a memorial service at 1 PM and visitation from 2-5 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey, NJ 07446.
