Robert H. Kopec, 73, of Stockholm, NJ passed away on October 16th, 2022.
Robert, known by all as Bob, was born on April 11th, 1949 in Jersey City, NJ. Bob grew up in Bayonne, NJ and graduated from Bayonne High School. Upon graduation he worked at Bergen Point Fabricators in Bayonne as a draftsman. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Truxtun in the bake shop and as the captain’s personal chef. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob attended college under the GI bill and graduated from Richmond College with a B.S. degree in Microbiology. Bob started his work experience as a microbiologist at US Testing in Hoboken NJ before settling into his career as a microbiologist at GlaxoSmithKline in Clifton, NJ.
The simplest moments in life brought much joy to Bob such as spending time with his family, reading the newspaper in the comfort of his woodstove and hanging out with his pets. He loved spending time outdoors gardening and enjoyed hiking and camping. He was a lover of all things automotive such as his Corvette, motorcycle and Lionel trains. He also enjoyed countless days at the beach and vacationing to Cape Cod with his family.
He is survived by his two children, Kristin Patterson (Kopec) and her husband Scott Patterson and Joseph Kopec. He was a proud grandfather to Eugene and Ian Patterson, a dear brother to Kenneth Kopec and his wife Kathleen, and an honored uncle to Matthew and Stephen Kopec and Lindsay Stein (Kopec). Bob is also survived by the mother of his children, Eileen Kopec. He is predeceased by his parents Cecilia Kopec (Czech) and Henry Kopec.
Bob will be honored with a celebration of life on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 12 PM - 2 PM at Black Horse Tavern, 1 West Main Street, Mendham, NJ. A private burial ceremony for family members will take place at a later date at the Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta, NJ.
