Rodney M. Kopec, 62, on January 2, 2026, of Ridgewood, NJ. Beloved husband of Allison. Loving father of Sophia, Valerie, and Bridget. Dear son of Juliette and the late Rodney Kopec, and son-in-law of Chiao and Henry Tsao. Cherished brother of Christopher (Betsy), David (Mary), and Caroline (Neal). Treasured uncle of Claire, Michael, Paul, and Kaylee.
Rodney loved spending time with his girls, playing video games, watching movies, going to concerts, taking trips to the mall, and going out to eat. Rodney Kopec was the kind of father who showed up — every single time. He never missed a school play, a school concert, a PTA meeting, a volleyball game, or a recital. Whether it was ballet, piano, violin, or any performance big or small, Rodney was always there, sitting proudly, clapping the loudest, and making sure his girls knew how deeply loved they were.
Rodney also had a special gift — he was always trying to make a joke. He was genuinely funny, quick-witted, and loved to make his girls laugh. Even during busy or stressful moments, he found a way to bring lightness into the room. Laughter was his way of connecting, comforting, and reminding his daughters that joy could always be found, even on hard days.
Rodney was a gentle soul — soft-spoken, warm, and patient, with a very kind heart. He had a way of making people feel at ease and got along with everyone he met.
Rodney was passionate about riding bikes and loved to stay active. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and taking long walks around downtown Ridgewood. He loved to travel and looked forward to retirement in Taiwan with Allison. He was an avid musician who loved to play the guitar and drums. Rodney also had a zest for cooking; his specialty was spaghetti and meatballs.
Rodney was employed by Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He received the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Baton Award on December 3, 2025, recognizing outstanding teamwork and contributions to the overall success of the medical community.
Those who wish to honor Rodney’s memory may make a contribution to a GoFundMe page created by a close friend to help support the family during this unexpected time. Any kindness and support are deeply appreciated.
