He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph, Vincent and Lucy. His beloved wife, Mary (nee Zandonella), of 63 years passed in 2020. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Robert) Aughey, Sally Ann (Franco) Bengasi and Tereasa (Andrew) Fontanese and their children Jason (Courtney) Aughey, Elizabeth (Justin) Brower, Matthew and Sarah Fontanese and his great grandchildren, Bryce, Ryan, Benjamin, Kayla and Jack, all of whom brought him endless pride and joy.
A proud graduate of Cliffside Park High School, Salvatore served honorably in the United States Army. Upon returning home, he married Mary, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. Together they built a beautiful family that was the center of his world.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Salvatore owned and operated an embroidery factory in Fairview for many years and later worked at the Fairview Borough Hall. Sal was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Presentation where he found comfort and community in his faith.
Sal enjoyed playing bocce and pool, woodcarving, feeding the birds, and teaching his grandchildren to fish and crab. He shared laughter and camaraderie with friends from all chapters of his life – from Fairview to Mahwah and Woodcliff Lake, from high school to Sons of Italy and Ramsey Seniors. His kindness, integrity, storytelling, and sense of humor along with his contagious passion for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
