Susan M. (Creter) Sinton

Susan M. Sinton (nee Creter), 90, of Mahwah, NJ passed away on April 4th 2024 at Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River, NJ after a brief illness. Susan was born in The Bronx on February 27, 1934. She attended Barnard College and graduated with a degree in Zoology. While at Barnard, she met her husband of 54 years Thomas E. Sinton, Jr. After her children were all in school, she went back to Fairleigh Dickinson’s Teaneck campus and earned her Teaching Certificate. Susan went on to become a K - 8 teacher in the Glen Rock school district and finished her teaching career as a substitute teacher in the Upper Saddle River School System. She was a long-time resident of Upper Saddle River, NJ and a long-standing member of the Hackensack Golf Club. Susan’s was a light to anyone who met her. Her love of learning, quick wit, and advice will be greatly missed by her close family and friends. She was always up for a lively debate about the latest topics she had read about and would give solid life advice, if asked. She was also a dog-lover, adopting her canine companion Quincy, a Boston Terrier, in 2010. Sue and Quincy were well known around their Mahwah neighborhood. Susan was an avid card player, painter, and gardener. Sue is survived by and was a devoted mother to Jill Polansky and her husband Ronald of Oakland, NJ, and her late children Thomas E. Sinton III and Sally Sinton. She was a loving grandmother to Emily Polansky-Lone and Jonaid Lone, Sarah Polansky-Dufour and Ryan Dufour, Alexandra Sinton and Michael Rivicki, and Annabel Lorenzen. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Rachel Lone. Her daughter-in-law Trudy Sinton, son-in-law Thomas Lorenzen, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas E. Sinton, Jr. in 2010, her parents Richard and Margaret Creter, and her brother Richard Creter.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10am at St. Paul’s Church in Ramsey, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
