Susan Vera Voros Desko, known lovingly as Susan, was born on July 25, 1959, in New York, New York, and passed away on May 30, 2026, in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Susan lived a life marked by kindness, faith, dedication, and warmth. She was a loving wife, mother, and cherished presence to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Michael Desko, her daughter Deanna, and her son Ryan. Her family was the center of her heart, and she found great joy in being with them through the many seasons of life. Susan carried herself with a gentle strength and a steady devotion that reflected the Christian faith she held dear.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and she devoted her professional life to caring for others as a nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering, also known as MSK. In that role, she served with compassion, patience, and skill. Her work was more than a profession to her. It was a ministry of care, comfort, and healing. She touched the lives of patients, families, and coworkers through her reassuring presence and the genuine concern she showed each day. Her colleagues knew her as someone dependable and kind, and her gift for helping others was evident in every part of her life.
Those who knew Susan will remember her as loving, funny, and handy. She had a cheerful spirit that could brighten a room, and she had a practical nature that made her someone others could count on. She approached life with grace and a sense of purpose, and she often expressed love through the simple, meaningful things she did for others. Her hands were often busy with tasks that cared for her home, her loved ones, and the things she enjoyed most. She had a way of making life feel warmer and more welcoming to those around her.
Susan loved gardening, and she found peace and joy in tending to her plants and watching them grow. She enjoyed being with her pets and her family, and she treasured the companionship they gave her every day. She especially loved her dogs, Penny, Jake, Molly, Rafi, and Teddy, as well as her cats Blackie, Johnny, Kitty, Squeaky, and Tammy, and her cockatoo Lucy. Each one brought her happiness and comfort, and she gave them all great affection and care. Her home was made fuller by their presence, and her love for them was unmistakable.
She also enjoyed arts and crafts, where she could express her creativity and create with her hands. Cooking and preparing Hungarian specialties were other joys in her life, and she loved sharing food with those she loved. These interests reflected her thoughtful spirit and her desire to create beauty, comfort, and connection in ordinary moments. Whether she was in the kitchen, in the garden, or spending time with family, Susan brought love and sincerity to all that she did.
Susan’s life was a blessing to her family and friends, and her memory will continue to be a source of comfort to those who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her loved ones take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope that comes through faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength that will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
May Susan rest in the peace of the Lord, and may her memory be cherished always.
