Thomas (Tom) Carberry, 90, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Cranford, NJ, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on September 27, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, to Patrick and Annette (Brinn) Carberry.
Tom was the oldest son of 13 siblings. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Grace Marie (Montemurno) Carberry, as well as his brothers Brendan, Aidan, Joseph, and Kevin, and his sisters Patricia and Maura. He is survived by his brothers Patrick, Michael, and Shaun, and his sisters Eile, Sheila, and Alanna.
Tom graduated from Don Bosco Preparatory High School before going on to earn his degree in English from Seton Hall University. He started a career in finance working for Manufacturer’s Hanover in NYC and then spent over 30 years as a Credit Supervisor at 3M, in West Caldwell, NJ.
Tom was a devoted family man who raised his children in Sparta, NJ. He is survived by his son Patrick and daughter-in-law Trish, and his daughter Marie Elena and son-in-law Jim. He was a proud grandfather to Kevin, Katie (Mike), John, Brendan (Sydney), and Ryan, and a great-grandfather to Lucie.
Tom and Grace enjoyed 11 years of time together in retirement at St. James Plantation in North Carolina. They were parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, served on multiple parish committees and helped local children in need. Tom and Grace also spent time golfing, going to the beach and meeting new friends and neighbors. It was a wonderful time of life for them.
A man of deep faith, Tom served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteering generously for his church and community. He also shared his love of sports as a Little League baseball coach and was a lifelong fan of the New York Mets and Seton Hall Basketball. His faith, his benevolent spirit, and his kind heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 PM - 8 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Mahwah. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
