Thomas Hayes, Jr. Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas “TJ” Hayes, who left us far too soon at the age of 34.  Beloved son of Victoria and the late Tom Hayes, loving brother of Justine Hayes and dearest great-nephew of David Wehr, passed away on March 8th, 2026.

From a young age, TJ had a deep appreciation for the things that brought people together—good food, good music, and good friends.  That love eventually became his life’s work.  As a chef manager, he poured his heart into the kitchen, approaching his craft with passion, creativity, an admirable work ethic, and great pride.  Cooking was never just a job for him; it was how he shared himself with others.

One of his absolute greatest joys was music.  He spent many memorable days and nights attending music festivals, surrounded by his college friends and the energy of live music.  Those experiences created memories and friendships that stayed with him for the rest of his life.

He remained close to many of the friends he grew up with, especially his high school friends who shared so many of life’s moments alongside him.  Their bond carried from their younger years into adulthood, celebrating all of life’s milestones together.  These lasting friendships were a testament to the loyalty and genuine connection he brought to every relationship.

TJ also had a lifelong love of football and was a diehard NY Jets fan, growing up going to games with his dad and godfather and later, spending every Sunday with his dad watching the games.  A tradition he so dearly missed this past season after losing his dad.

Above all, TJ was known for his kind heart and welcoming spirit.  He was truly a friend to everyone he met, the kind of person who could make others feel comfortable and valued in an instant.  Whether through a shared meal, a laugh, or simply being there when someone needed him,  his warmth, humor, and loyalty left a lasting impression on the lives of so many.

He is survived by his grandmothers Ann Hayes and Donna Scocozza, and countless aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is predeceased by his uncle, William A. Hayes, and his grandparents, Lilian Wehr, William C. Hayes, Mary B. Scocozza, and Victor Scocozza.

Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave so freely and the joy he brought into the lives of others will never fade.  The light he brought into this world was unmistakable, and while it has left our sight, it will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.  He will be remembered always, spoken of often, and never, ever forgotten.
